Eno and Byrne. Ulrike, feel free to razz me, but I think these songs are purty.
This is the only sort of moving image I want to look at anymore. Your editor is a little depressata lately, and somehow this sort of video is just the thing. Very calming. Luckily, youtube is FULL of these. Olympics special, after the jump.

The problem with everything is that now the girls will totally tell.
UPDATE -- I don't want to throw any shade at Ms. J -- she's still fantastic. But think of how much nicer this would be if she were standing in front of a mantle, in gorgeous B&W 16mm slowly getting drunk and revealing what's up instead of prancing in front of a green screen. WOULDN'T THAT BE NICER???
Three Ruth Brown related videos after the jump. One insane, one awful, and one AMAZING.

The new song and video are after the jump.
I like that part of Kenneth Anger's Hollywood Babylon where you learn that all the early film stars were constantly coked up, which was a funny revelation about Keystone Cops and Chaplin and all that other frenetic, unfunny, early comedy. But here, it's pretty obvs. This is what your editor is going to spend the afternoon doing, though I'm not sure I can hoist the chair over my head. I love this woman.
As it turns out, the always uncanny, mystically witty Nayland Blake has a LiveJournal! What medium hasn't he mastered?

In high school, I used to haunt the used record shops, picking up $1 records indiscriminately. A big fan of Laurie Anderson at the time (and still, in fact), I was particularly excited to pick up an LP of Mister Heartbreak for the low, low price of one dollar. But the real bonus was what was tucked into the sleeve--this flexi-disc from a 1982 issue of Artforum, featuring a very early version of Let X=X, one of my favorite songs off Big Science and United States Live. Enjoy the spareness!
About a year ago, my good friend K. found herself in possession of a screener of Mi Coche, a truly astounding piece of short-form cinema. We watched in gape-jawed amazement at something that seemed to defy description, and to call into question the entire oeuvre of video art of the past several decades. It was pretty life-changing.
Sadly, the screener had to be returned. We've talked about Mi Coche ever since, but with no way to get back that most rare and treasured DVD, we were forced to recreate, through storytelling and inadequate gesturing, that which we had witnessed with our own eyes.
But tonight, I'm privileged to bring the pleasures and treasures of Mi Coche to all of you. It lives, courtesy of Al Gore's information superhighway! After the jump, the Rawk Lobster premiere of...Mi Coche.
